Thank you, Year 2025

Dear readers, listeners and supporters.

I want to have a moment to reflect on the passing year – what an amazing year it has been! I truly hope it’s been amazing for you too.

Sometimes in the daily rush it is difficult to appreciate the big picture, especially because the end of the year has been particularly difficult due to illnesses, children’s events and concerts, holiday season, which all take up a lot of energy. But this year there have definitely been big and important events. Among the main ones I can mention:

  • Nomination for the GAMMA Music Award this spring;
  • Receiving two Gold certificates for songs that have exceeded the threshold of 2 million streams;
  • Releasing the album “Lightkeeper”;
  • The song “Wednesday” reached 1 million listens on the Spotify platform.

On the personal front, these have been:

  • Starting the construction of a family home – very exciting!!

which also leads to great challenges and inconveniences that must be endured for an unknown duration – family life in a small rented apartment and the absence of your own studio. It is difficult when you do not have your own space and doors that you can close to be alone. But all this in the name of the future, that one day I will have my own studio/space for work that won’t also be a bedroom at the same time, or a room for children’s games – such as flying pillows through the air.

Maybe now you understand better why creative trips are so important to me, especially at this challenging time in my life. I went on couple of creative trips this year and my conclusions were:

    • a wonderful way to work productively and without interruptions, because you don’t have to stop for someone else, you don’t have to deal with cleaning, picking up after others, logistics, time planning and other daily things that occupy your mind. Reminds me of the times when I lived alone and was my own queen.
    • Because the workload was unusually intense and outside my normal routine, it left me exhausted; my eyes hurt in the evenings (but I was always very happy with the amount of music work I did);
    • Going to nature is a win-win situation, because you have both inspiration and the opportunity to work at the same time;
    • Since my time was usually limited in terms of the number of days, there is undoubtedly pressure somewhere in the back of my brain that something worthwhile must be created. It would be cool if I could work without putting too much pressure on myself.

Things I did on my very little spare time this year:

    Books:

Ok, you have to know that I read approximately one – two books a year (let me specify that I am here speaking about books for adults) and this year the lucky ones are:

Inga Spriņģe “Karsti” (“Hot”) – I bought this book because the topic is relevant (a guide for women navigating perimenopause) and I really like the way Inga approaches the issues with her journalism experience – haven’t finished reading it yet.

“Kā runāt, ja bērni neklausās” (“How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen”) by Joanna Faber and Julie King – some very valuable advises on parenting – love this book and cannot recommend enough.

I have additionally read plenty of children’s books, our favorite one this year being – “Dogman”, all the series, by Dav Pilkey.

    Podcasts:

This year I have continued to listen to some of the podcasts I already listened before, such as : “Cilvēkjauda” by Laura Denler and “Pēcdzemdību Stāsti” by Marta Ābele and Vija Požarnova. But I also started listening to new ones, like: “Izgaismots” by Kristīne Garklāva and “Laika Kapsula” by Mārtiņš Spuris.

    Films:

I loved the TV show “Ted Lasso” so much – not only for the humor, but also because it’s set in Richmond – that’s the exact same place we lived in London! How cool to see and recognize the streets we’ve walked and the parks we’ve hung out in. And another one I am watching this year is “Dimplomat” with Keri Russell, who I loved already when she was playing Felicity years and years ago. From my cinematic experiences, I would like to highlight the film “Tīklā. TTT leģendas dzimšana” (“Escape Net” in English) about the beginnings of the legendary Latvian female basketball team TTT. Wept like a baby.

    Travel:

March: Austrian Alps – extended family tradition of skiing, this year also with our little boy!
May: Rome – my husband and I went to Rome to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. Rome is breathtakingly beautiful!
July: Czech Republic – family road trip during summer school holidays.

I am going through my photos on my phone trying to find something to share with you all, and I have to admit that my phone is full of photos with my kids 🙂 haha.. but ok here are a few I want to share.

Thanks to each and every one of you who has purchased, streamed, or otherwise listened to my music this year — who shared it with friends and family, watched my stories and reels, commented on my posts, and supported me in ways both big and small. None of it goes unnoticed. 🧡

Creating and releasing music is often a very personal process, and knowing that these songs have found their way into your lives means more to me than I can put into words. Every listen, message, and kind word reminds me why I do this, especially on the days when it feels hard or uncertain. 💔

Your support this year has allowed me to keep creating, growing, and believing in what I’m building. I’m deeply grateful for the time, energy, and love you’ve shared with my work, and I don’t take it for granted for a second. 💛

Thank you for being here, for listening, and for being part of this journey with me. I can’t wait to share what’s coming next. 🤍

I wish you all health and happiness in 2026! Stay curious and productive!

    With love, Aija

    “Lightkeeper” Album OUT NOW

I am very happy to let you know that my third studio album “Lightkeeper” is out now and available on both – digital streaming platforms and on gorgeous transparent magenta vinyl.

It is a deeply personal and emotional piece of work, in which piano compositions intertwine with the timbre-rich sound of a string quartet and subtle touches of ambient and electronic music.

Lightkeeper is the most honest thing I’ve written. It comes from the constant struggle between being a mother and being an artist. I love composing more than I can explain — it’s where I feel most alive — but my children will always be my first priority. That means my dream of fully dedicating myself to music often has to wait. Some days it feels like I’m standing on a shore, watching that dream drift farther away, knowing I can’t chase it without letting go of something even more precious.

The compositions from the new album were created during my various creative get-aways to the Latvian nature. I produced them in my home studio, but both Latvian and foreign specialists were invited for post-processing – Pauls Dāvis Megi mixed the four tracks that features strings, Martyn Heyne at Lichte Studio in Berlin mastered the whole album. The String Quartet NŌNA participated in the recording, and the album artwork was created by the talented Latvian artist Linda Valere. I am so thankful to each and every one who participated in the creation of this beauty. And to all of you who already purchased or listened to it!

The album is available on limited edition vinyl record, and its magenta colour honestly blew me away!

    KULDĪGA PIANO

I also wanted to reflect a little on my recent concert within the scope of “Kuldīga Piano 2025” which took place in September 13th, right on my birthday this year. I was genuinely taken aback — in the best possible way — by how many people showed up at the venue. I must admit, the sight of such a big crowd sent a little jolt of panic through me. I’m not exactly used to playing for that many faces at once! My hands were trembling so much I briefly wondered if the piano keys might start shaking in sympathy. Thankfully, I wasn’t alone on stage. I had the wonderful company of two brilliant musicians from the Nona String Quartet, whose presence (and calmness) grounded me more than they probably realise. The final piece of the concert was from my new album Lightkeeper. As I played it, something shifted — the nerves melted into pure emotion. By the time I struck the last chord, I was flooded with happiness and gratitude. Everything had gone well; I had truly felt the music. And when the applause filled the room, it all hit me at once — the joy, the relief, the disbelief — and yes, I cried. Tears of happiness, of course.

I want to save this Latvian news story about the festival here for me.

    Goodbye summer 2025

    Hello dear friends,

Greetings to all of you who are going back to schools, or who have kids going back to schools tomorrow! Summer was too short, and here in Latvia, there was no proper summer at all this year. Just rainy autumn for the most of the time.

Here I am, writing to you to the latest news. I have released 3 new singles from my upcoming album, and there is one more – the last one expected in September. And then the long waited album “Lightkeeper” is here – on October 3rd.

    Singles:

    • “Remnant” – you can listen here
    • “Eyes, the Damp Place” – here
    • “Gratitude” – here

I thought it would be a great idea to make “Lightkeeper” t-shirts, so I did. Then we made a photoshoot in our construction site and the pictures turned out really great. I am very thankful to everyone who has already purchased a copy of “Lightkeeper” T-shirt. 🫶 They are available in two colors – anthracite (like in the photo) and vintage white. Order your copy here.

And the last news is that I will be playing one last concert this year – it’s September 13th in Kuldīga, Latvia – I am participating in an annual festival Kuldiga Piano which is a wonderful celebration of piano and its players. I hope to see you there!

And there is something else – I am quite sure this will be my last concert, not only this year, but for a longer while. I will step aside from the concert life, and maybe in some other post I will tell more details about this decision.

That’s all for now, I am going to make pancakes now as it’s Sunday, and will patiently wait for my new vinyls to arrive. Hope you all have blessed autumn, and as I always, I would be very happy to connect – so please do not hesitate to write, comment and chat with me.

    With Love, Aija

    June news 2025

    June 30th, 2025

Hello after a longer while. Lots of things happened since I last wrote. Mostly just family stuff, moving homes etc. Also, I took a step back from social media, as I started to feel overwhelmed with schedules and deadlines trying to fit into the “right algorithm”. It became clear that my content doesn’t fall into the category of most sharable and saveable content, so I decided I won’t waste my time trying to beat it. I will share whenever I have some news to share or feel like I want to share something, rather than because the schedule says so.

    UPCOMING CONCERTS

If you are in Latvia during summer, I hope you can come to any of my concerts I will be playing this summer. Here, save the dates:

✨ July 3rd | Riga | Strazdu Muižas Parks, Jugla – with me a string duet from @nonastringquartet 🎻 FB Event.

    ✨ July 18th | Riga | M/Darbnīca, A.Briāna iela 9 – I’ll play before Anete Kozlovska 🧡

    ✨ August 2nd | Riga | Masa, Kultūrbārs, Elizabetes iela 67 @masa.kulturbars

    ✨ September 13th | Kuldīga | Kuldīga Piano – St.Anna’s Church – with me a string duet from @nonastringquartet 🎻 – (more info follows)

    NEW SINGLE“Echoes of My Voice”

✨ On June 5th I released the first single from my upcoming album “Lightkeeper”, which will be out this autumn. “Echoes of my Voice” is a delicate piano piece about the lingering feeling of being unheard — like your voice fades before it reaches anyone. It explores identity, invisibility, and the quiet ache of self-doubt. As a mother and artist, I often feel caught between roles, and this track captures that emotional distance — the echo of someone trying to hold onto themselves.

Maybe it’s worth mentioning that I am releasing all my music by myself independently. I cover all the costs myself and am doing all the promotion by myself.

For this album’s artwork I collaborated with the incredibly talented Latvian artist – Linda Valere – check out her other work here: @linda_valere 💙🎨💫 I really love her style and all the stuff she is doing, I feel like Linda captured the emotion, energy, and soul of my music in a way that honestly blew me away.

Listen to the single “Echoes of My Voice” here:

That’s all for now, I got to prepare for my concert which is already in couple of days!

    Stay well. Love, Aija

    April news 2025

    April 29th, 2025

    Hi – it’s Aija.

I want to use the chance and thank you for reading my blog posts. I am always happy to hear back from you, I love your comments, and if you have any suggestions – or topics you would love to hear from me, please do not hesitate to tell me.

Here are some news that happened recently: I have released 2 singles.

    1. My composition “Wandering E Flat” was released as a part of this beautiful Piano Day compilation album “Piano Whispers 01” by Barcelona label @ad21music, that is compiling 51 talented composers and pianists from all over the world. I wrote this tune, this little theme around E Flat at first as a draft on my mobile, and as it went playing on loop, I tried to come up with different chords that I felt went well together. So this composition is really a result of playing around on piano on different chords and motifs.

    2. Last week for the first time I released a rework of my own composition “Presence”. Done by a Latvian electronic music producer @shrialexey. (Here is the original piece).
I met Shri Alex at one of my concerts last year. This renowned Latvian electronic music producer fell in love with my sound and offered to remix one of my tracks. I was thrilled when he chose Presence—my all-time favorite.

Here is what Shri Alex says about the process of reworking Presence:

“I was walking along the beach and listening to the ‘Compilation” album and this composition intuitively seemed to me to be an ideal candidate for my remix. I spent a long time choosing the right “sound option” for this track. Finally I found an option I loved the most.

My job as a sound designer allows me to work a lot with sounds, and it turned out that I added some extra emotional context to the remix and it sounds nearly cinematic now I think.

I used both analog and VST synths plus samples from my huge collection to build the remix.

Usually every musical track I mix and master in professional studio to get the proper results: so it would sound equally perfect on nearly every sound system.  Please do enjoy the remix and we are already working on a new one which will be released quite soon too. Stay tuned )”

Something else very cool happened in April – I received not only one, but 2 Golden Certificates!! They are awarded by @laipa.biedriba (Latvian Performers’ and Producers‘ Association) to every track that reaches 2M streams. For me it was two compositions: “Collecting Memories” 📀 and “Lullaby” 📀. This is the first time in Latvia when INSTRUMENTAL music has been awarded with this Certificate. I am beyond grateful to anyone who contributed to these numbers of streams. I know, it’s many of you!

Here is a little video of my emotions at home after the ceremony:

We also celebrated Easter 🐰, and my dad’s 75th birthday this month. I continue working on my 3rd studio album and hopefully if everything goes as planned, it will see the daylight still this year. Of course, I will share more information about it in the coming weeks. I almost said “in the coming days” – but then I remembered – in two days me and my husband we are off to Rome to celebrate our 10 year marriage anniversary 🥂- so I do not plan to be online too much 🎉.

Stay well and healthy, and thanks again for being a subscriber to my news!

    Aija

    March news 2025

    March 19th, 2025

I knew I am not much of a talker, and this blog proves it. Either that, or I simply cannot find time for it, those of you who have kids will understand. Time just slips out of my hands and disappears in nothing.

Anyway, I wanted to share some news that have happened since I last wrote you. Here are 3 most important ones:

I got nominated in the category “The Artist of the Year in Instrumental Music Genre” in the newly established Latvian Music Award, called GAMMA, which stands for “Gada Augstākais Mūsdienu Mūzikas Apbalvojums” – The Highest Contemporary Music Award of the Year. I am so very honoured for this recognition and am beyond thankful!! Here you can find the list of all nominees in 2024.

A very nice surprise happened earlier this year – my composition “Wednesday” got included in this beautiful sheet music book – “The Faber Music Women Composers Piano Anthology”, published by @fabermusicpublishing. It is a landmark publication featuring over 50 works for piano by women across the centuries. Available now from fabermusic.com/shop or your preferred music retailer. Also, listen to the playlist “The Faber Music Women Composers Anthology” on Spotify. If you are interested in my other sheet music, it’s here.

For this year’s PIANO DAY I am very happy to be a part of this wonderful compilation album “Piano Whispers 01” with my new composition “Wandering E Flat”. Based in Barcelona, this neo-classical music label Ad21 is compiling 51 talented composers and pianists from all over the world. Mark the release day – March 28th!

Other than that, we have done lots fighting different viruses, around in circles, but on the fun side – we also went on a ski trip to Austrian Alps and survived 2 days road trip both ways with 2 kids. We are very proud! Here I am trying my best to look happy, whereas I honestly didn’t enjoy skiing (because I can’t really ski).

As always you are welcome to contact me and share your feedback, also thanks for sharing my music and listening to it! 🎧 Without you I wouldn’t got millions of streams, I am so very grateful to you all.

Stay safe and healthy, with love from Latvia,

      Aija

“Par Cilvēku Būt” – new collaboration song

      December 1st, 2024

      Hello all,

I am very thrilled to let you know that for the first time in my instrumental music career I have collaborated with a Latvian singer-songwriter which resulted in a song with lyrics! This talented musician is wonderful Anete Kozlovska! We met for the first time earlier this year and instantly found so much common, both personally and musically. Logically we decided to try and create something together and voila! Some months later we have a song called “Par Cilvēku Būt” (To be a Human) which already has received good feedback from Latvian music critics.
Being released on First of Advent, our song deeply explores the meaning of existence, urging listeners to reflect on their identity, choices, and the emotional journey of life amidst joy and pain.

Mūzikas žurnālists Sandris Vanzovičs: “Jāatzīst, ka dziesma “Par cilvēku būt” ir nenoliedzami skaista, un šīs skaistās sajūtas paspilgtina Anetes balss un domāt liekošais teksts.”

The video of our song was filmed on the West coast of Latvia back in the sunny October, and it is made by Elīna Treimane-Lieljukse @ellufilms. I truly hope you enjoy it!

      October news 2024

      October 8th, 2024

      Hello all,

It’s been quite busy times since I last wrote. Some of the news I will list here:

      NEW SINGLE OUT

A new single “Thursday” is out and available on all streaming platforms. Listen to it here. Thanks for your kind feedback regarding this composition, for many of you it reminded the autumn that has already arrived here, in Latvia 🍁.

      PAST CONCERTS

I played two concerts in August: one in an old manor in West side of Latvia – Nogale manor (little video here). And the second one in a wonderful event – my first festival experience (!!) – the Silence Festival which took place in Bauska, a small town in Latvia (little video here).

      COLLABORATION

We are in progress of writing a song together with a talented Latvian singer-songwriter Anete Kozlovska. The song will be in Latvian language and will be released on December 1st this year. Here you can hear some of Anete’s works and her amazing voice. I can’t wait to share our song with you all!

      UPCOMING CONCERTS

Those of you who are located in Latvia, come and join me in two intimate concerts in Riga this October:

🎵 October 10th, 8:00 p.m. Kaņepes Kultūras Centrs @kanepeskc (Riga, Skolas iela 15); FB event here. Entrance for donations.

🎵 October 18th 8:00 p.m. Art Gallery Masa @masa.kulturbars (in Riga, Elizabetes iela 67); FB event here. Entrance for donations.

And something pretty cool this time for my both concerts – for the first time I will have a video accompaniment for my music, that is going to be displayed via the projector. It is the work of Oleg, the talented video man who takes care of the account @latvia.castles on a daily basis.

To get a glimpse of the video work this man is capable to do, please see this wonderful reel we filmed in Lantes Manor (Latvia) earlier this year.

I look forward to seeing you all!

Stay safe and healthy, with love from Latvia,

      Aija 💛
