Lightkeeper (2025)

On October 3rd, 2025, Latvian instrumental music composer Aija Alsiņa has released her third studio album “Lightkeeper”. It is a deeply personal and emotional piece of work, in which piano compositions intertwine with the timbre-rich sound of a string quartet and subtle touches of ambient and electronic music.

The album reveals the musician’s inner journey between motherhood and self-realization, between doubts and the strength to continue. Each piece is like a step closer to the light — even in moments when it seems it will go out. “Lightkeeper” symbolizes the small but persistent flame that continues to burn, inspiring Aija to create and share her music.

“Lightkeeper is the most honest thing I’ve written. It comes from the constant struggle between being a mother and being an artist. I love composing more than I can explain — it’s where I feel most alive — but my children will always be my first priority. That means my dream of fully dedicating myself to music often has to wait. Some days it feels like I’m standing on a shore, watching that dream drift farther away, knowing I can’t chase it without letting go of something even more precious.”

“Capable of resonating with her listeners”

“teicams darbs! Un nav pat jābūt klaviermūzikas vai instrumentālās mūzikas lietpratējam, lai to saprastu un spētu pienācīgi novērtēt. “

Creation (2021)

Creation is a collection of 11 modern classical instrumental pieces written and produced by Latvian composer Aija Alsina. This is her second full length album following her debut release Domum in 2017. In Creation she uses the combination of acoustic felt piano, string quartet and ambient textures to create intimate and emotional musical landscapes.

“Inspiration for this album was drawn from my journey to motherhood and from my both sons. Creation began around 2020 when I’d had enough time to accustom to the new setting of being now a mom of two, and I started to spare some little moments to reflect on my pregnancy and to actually sit down at the piano and start playing again. Making this record was a great mental retreat from my everyday chores, and it was a pleasure to recollect those emotions I felt through the nine months of expecting. With this album I am trying to tell my story of my pregnancy and explain my own motherhood. I found and still find a huge inspiration in watching both my sons grow every day.”

“I don’t always know how to describe neoclassical piano work, but when I got to the end of the first line of this piece I felt chills up and down my spine. If that’s not the measure of the spiritual significance of a piece of music, I don’t know what is.”

Domum (2017)

Aija’s debut album, Domum, is a set of 12 piano pieces, released in September 2017. The album features work created over four years, and the title (Latin for homeward) not only expresses Aija’s return to her childhood instrument – the piano, but also implies the struggle of finding her own unique musical expression. The overall romantic and delicate compositions also have a distinctly melancholy hue, making this a highly emotionally charged album.

“truly an invitation to her personal world”

Doug Thomas

“..an evocative album filled with texture and imagery. An effort characterized both by its assembly of mixed emotions, and by its delicate play and the broad range of sounds. Aija Alsina’s debut is utterly captivating.”
